Coffee Klatch

If you want to know more about health issues and how they are handled at Kendal, our Coffee Klatches are the meetings to attend.

The next one is Wed. Oct. 24, 10 am in the Private Dining Room.

What is it? It’s an open discussion with Chris Appel and/or Lisa Wacht, supported by the Health and Wellness Committee.  This week we will likely spend time discussing the palliative program at Kendal as well as your own concerns.

Questions? Get in touch with Dot Bone.

Election Day - Nov. 6, 2018

Midterm election.png

Prepare!

In a little more than two weeks Election Day will be upon us. A number of residents have expressed concerns that they have no way of going to vote in this important election.

Not to worry about getting to the polls. On Tuesday, November 6 there will be several van trips to and from Phillipsburg Manor where we vote. Residents who plan to drive their own cars will be asked to take others with them. There will be sign up sheets.

If you have any questions get in touch with Martin Smolin or Annette Leyden.

Just make sure you get to the poll!

New Year's Eve Celebration Plans

New Years Eve 2019.jpg

With the leaves not yet off the trees, it’s hard to believe that plans are underway for Kendal’s New Year’s Eve celebration.

Rehearsals and planning have already begun for the much acclaimed New Year’s Eve celebration at Kendal on Hudson, which begins at 8 pm in the Gathering Room on Monday evening, December 31.

Our talented Kendal Singers and Kendal Players are reviewing songs and skits, and Sally Costa is assembling her committee for the gala champagne-and-caviar reception after the show.  If you’d like to join the party committee, contact Sally.

Producer Muriel Fox welcomes residents – especially new arrivals – who can perform a song or who know an especially funny poem to recite.  Contact Muriel. Perhaps a star will be born.

For the benefit of newcomers, evening attire (including tuxedos) is encouraged but optional.

New Trip

A new excursion has been announced by the ever-active Trips Committee.

On Wed, Nov. 14, a New York City “Do Your Own Thing” trip with drop-off at the Met Museum is planned. Since the van can only accomodate 12 residents, priority is given to those who have never or not recently taken this trip; no one-way trips, please.  Current Met exhibitions include “Delacroix,” “Dutch Masterpieces at the Met,” and “Art of Native America.”

The Committee also announced that there is a short wait list for the Nov. 7 trip to the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, CT; Docent tour of “Helena Hernmarck: Weaving in Progress”; also of “Domestic Plane: New Perspectives on Tabletop Art Objects.”  Swedish-born   Helena Hernmarck, an important contemporary artist, will be working at a five-foot wide loom and has 20 tapestries displayed.  “Tabletop Art Objects” has five sections with works by more than 70 artists: “Objects Like Us,” “Kitchen Arrangement,” “On Edge,” “Almost Everything on the Table,” and “Handheld.”

The Committee believes that there may be openings, so it pays to sign up and see what happens.

Please do not sign up for a trip unless you are willing to avoid making conflicting plans; if you do need to cancel, please cross your name off the list or wait list.  The Trips Book is in the Activities Alcove across from the Computer Room.

Do You Know About Kendal "PIE"?

Unknown.png

The acronym stands for the Patient Information Extension, a resident volunteer telephone service created to inform residents about those of us who unexpectedly are taken to Clearwater, Phelps, Westchester Medical Center or White Plains Hospital. Dial extension 3333 to reach a recording that gives you the patient’s name, location and phone number. A printed copy is posted on the bulletin board in the main hall.
