Great Lecture - Fascinating Story

Sing Sing 1.png

Kendal has a fascinating lecture scheduled for Monday, October 8 at 7:30 pm in the Gathering Room. The subject is….

Refuge in Hell: Finding God in Sing Sing

This is the story of an unusual parish – drawn from the inmates of Sing Sing Prison — as told by their chaplain of 16 years, Rev. Ronald D. Lemmert.  (Father Lemmert has been offering weekly Mass for Kendal residents for several years.)

Unsparing in his treatment of the brutalities of prison life, Father Lemmert chronicles the stories of the prisoners he served, revealing their humanity, and showing that there is no place so dark that God’s love cannot be found.

His ministry began with the project of rebuilding the long-neglected prison chapel.  By enlisting the prisoners’ help, they were also gradually transformed.  Refuge in Hell describes how a caring community can emerge, as the practice of faith leads to deeper lessons in forgiveness, reconciliation, and liberation.

Copies of his book will be available for purchase at $22 each.
