Metro-North Railroad Trains

Some residents regularly take Metro-North Railroad's Hudson Line trains to see friends, NYC museums, plays, concerts, restaurants, doctors, dentists, shopping, or other things, often aided by the Kendal van which takes them to a morning train and meets an afternoon train in Tarrytown whenever possible.  Sign up at least one day ahead in the Notebook at the Front Desk labeled "Local Stops, Train Station, Shopping."  When returning to Tarrytown call the front desk reception (914-922-1000) to confirm what train you're returning on.  The last Kendal pickup is 4:30 pm.  Cabs are always available at the Tarrytown Station if needed.

Senior tickets cost $7 per ride, except on trains arriving in NYC before 10 am which cost $14.  Click here for the Metro-North Railroad Website showing train times. The rail road station in Tarrytown sells both train tickets and Metro cards.

Local Buses

Some residents use the Westchester bus system.  The #13 Beeline buses run back and forth between Ossining, Phelps Hospital, Tarrytown train station, White Plains, and Portchester Train Station.  They accept MetroCards or exact change for the fare, which is $1.35 for senior citizens.  Click here for a link to the Westchester bus schedules and system. Click here for the #13 bus schedule which stops at Phelps Hospital and at the Tarrytown Train Station. Scroll down to see the times for buses going north and south.

Bee-Line ParaTransit

Some residents at Kendal may qualify for and benefit from the service provided by ParaTransit, operated by the Westchester Bee-Line. You must apply in writing, make a strong case for your need for the service, and, for $5.00 (one-way) you can go anywhere in Westchester County, to your doctor, a movie, shopping, a friend, a relative - anywhere in Westchester County. For applications go to the Resident Care Center and speak to Patty Munson, or call resident Juanita Carmi for more information.

Taxis and Car Services

Taxis are always available at the Tarrytown train station and can be called if residents need to be picked up at Kendal or somewhere else. Click here for the “Handy Guide to Helpful Information and Web Links” prepared by residents and see the “Limo/Car Service/Taxis” section in it.  Car services take residents to Westchester, LaGuardia, JFK, and Newark airports, and other places including New York City, by appointment.
