New Trip

The oppresive hot weather has not slowed down the Trips Committee. They keep providing Kendal residents with interesting places to visit no matter what the weather.

On Thursday, Aug. 30 the Committee is sponsoring an afternoon trip to Lyndhurst in Tarrytown. This fine Gothic  Revival mansion on the Hudson (only 10 minutes from Kendal) has a special exhibition on Louis Comfort Tiffany works. Many of the details can be found in the July 30 edition of Spotlight available on this website.

In addition the trip includes a film, the Classic mansion tour, Tiffany exhibition , gift shop and a drive around the landscaped grounds.

This excursion will fill up soon. Sign up ASAP in the Activities Alcove.

The Trips Committee also announced that there is a short wait list for the August 22 trip to Boscobel in Garrison, NY.

On Monday, July 30 Kendal will hear an update on the progress being made on the construction of the new Tappan Zee Bridge (actually called the Mario Cuomo Bridge after a former governor and the father of our current governor).

Project spokesman Andrew O'Rourke will talk in the Gathering Room at 7:30 pm about progress the builders are making and, perhaps, let us know when it might be finished. It's a big project. Costing $3.09 Billion (that's billion with a B), it crosses the Hudson River 10 minutes south of Kendal.

All are invited to get the inside dope on New York's largest construction project.

Residents Quarterly Meeting

There will be brief reports and an opportunity for participants to raise questions and make comments in an open discussion period.

All residents are invited

A new show "Kendal Art" will be displayed on the Rue des Artistes from  October 9, 2018 to
April 4, 2019.

Curators Mariet Van der Heide and Lynn Brady are requesting submissions of artwork made by residents and staff not shown on the Rue des Artistes previously.

Paintings, collages, assemblages, wearable art, fiber art and whatever else that can hang on the wall or fit in a case are now being sought.

So...get busy! Start producing and get in touch with Mariet or Lynn if you have questions.

New Trip

Despite the hot weather and the desire to sip iced tea and relax, Kendal's Trips Committee continues to be as busy as ever.

A new trip is planned for Wednesday, August 22. This one is to Boscobel in Garrison, NY.

Boscobel is a restored historic home and museum that overlooks the Hudson River and West Point. It is known for its Duncan Phyfe furniture and early 19th Century decorative arts, its lush 68 acre gardens and during the summer, the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival.

Signing up in the Activities Alcove will, as usual, be on a first-come-first-served basis. Our advice is to head down there with pen in hand ASAP.
