New Game in Town

Pinball Machine.jpg

Thanks to the generosity of Mary Lou Donarski, an F-14 pinball machine has been donated to Kendal and is available for playing in the Hudson Room.

The machine was a favorite game of her late daughter Amy. Mary Lou was sure Amy would have been happy to share it with all the residents of Kendal.

Players should follow the simple rules posted and not play while a ping-pong game is in progress.

Enjoy the machine. Maybe some day we'll have an F-14 Tomcat contest.

Two Vans for Met Opera HD Live

Because of the long wait lists for the performances of Aida on Oct. 6 and La Traviata on Dec. 15, two vans will be available to transport residents to and from the City Center Cinema.

There are sign-up and payment instructions in the July 9 edition of Spotlight.

In addition, Jan Myers, Chair of the Trips Committee, advises us that there is a short wait list for the July 25 trip to the Maritime Aquarium.

Balance Clinic Alumni

The sort of balance the Fitness Center deals with has nothing to do with checkbooks. More importantly, it has to do with physical balance to keep residents from falling.

If you have attended at least one Balance Clinic you may sign-up to use the stability stations with Fitness Staff members. Sessions are brief, yet challenging.

Time slots are available on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 - 11:30 am.

To sign up or have your questions answered, please contact the Fitness Center.

"Homelessness in Westchester"

Anahaita Kotval.png

On Monday evening July 9 at 7:30 pm Kendal residents will hear from Anahaita Kotval, the Executive Director of Lifting Up Westchester, a non-profit agency that cares for homeless individuals in our community.

Ms. Kotval will talk about finding long-term housing and providing the support needed to rebuild the lives of our homeless citizens. She has been doing this sort of work for almost four decades in Fairfield County, CT and Westchester.

All residents are invited. It should be a most interesting evening.

Sleepy Hollow is a very mixed community. It contains people of all kinds. Most who have reached their golden years, like many of us at Kendal, have had very productive lives, perhaps with a little fame. There is one group that has received more public acclaim than many others and the members reside in one place-- the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

Click here to see a list compiled by Wikipedia of the most famous people buried there. The list contains their names with a brief identification and links to read more about them.
