Jazz Diplomacy
On Wednesday, April 25 at 7:30 pm , the Education Committee will present James Ketterer, Bard College's Dean of International Studies, who will talk about how the U.S. Government has used jazz, the quintessential American art form, as a way to connect with audiences around the world.
The impact on both the jazz musicians who traveled for the U.S. and their audiences make for a fascinating story.
Ketterer served in Egypt as country director of the American program AMIDEAST and has taught at many colleges and universities throughout the U.S.
Trip the Light Botanical
Our "out of the box" thinking Trips Committee has come up with another great adventure in NYC. This one is to the newly opened Georgia O'Keeffe "Visions of Hawaii" at the New York Botanical Garden. The exhibit focuses on the artist's immersion in Hawaii in 1939 with little known paintings of flowers and landscapes in the Mertz Library.
While at the NYBG there will be an opportunity to view a short film, poetry and contemporary art. In addition, there is a short tram ride to see the Azalea Garden.
It will take place on Wednesday, May 23. Sign up in the Activities Alcove. Haste is necessary as this trip will fill up quickly.
Vision Help Group
A new Vision Help Group has formed at Kendal. Co-Chairs Muriel Hahn and Amelia Augustus announced that any resident having concerns about vision is welcome to attend the meetings. They will be addressed by both professionals and informed laymen.
Current information on relevant topics, including assistive devices, will be presented and discussed at the meetings. The next one will be held on Monday, April 30 at 3:00 pm in the Residents Association Office.
Questions? Get in touch directly with either Muriel or Amelia.

New Trip - May 20
The unblemished record of the Trips Committee in providing great excursions for our residents continues. On Sunday, May 20th residents will be welcomed at a free open-house at the William Louis-Dreyfus Foundation in Mt. Kisco. Transport will be by volunteer private cars.
The participants will see a little known collection of paintings, drawings and sculpture by more than 200 self-taught, contemporary artists.
William Louis-Dreyfus(1932-2016) was a billionaire businessman, lawyer, poet and art collector. His collection is just nothing short of sensational.
Sign up, as usual, is in the Activities Alcove.
