Priscilla writes, “I found this monarch butterfly chrysalis on the wall by the river this afternoon (October 2). Judging from the green color, the monarch caterpillar formed this only within the last 24 hours or so. The butterfly metamorphosis will take about 9 more days, and then the chrysalis will look dark because its skin is translucent and the black color on the wings will show through. We are in October, and if the weather stays warm enough the butterfly may emerge and join the monarch migration to Mexico, which is under way now.”
