The Burns Comes to Kendal

Jacob Burns Center.png

The Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) opened in 2001 as a nonprofit five-screen cinema and education center. One of the most successful suburban art houses in the country, JBFC celebrates film as a vehicle for entertainment, education, and inspiration.

Sleepy Hollow Village

Sleepy Hollow3.jpg

Kendal on Hudson can at times seem like a community unto itself. However, we should never forget that we are also citizens of the Village of Sleepy Hollow. So…

Please be aware that you will have an opportunity to meet with the newly re-elected Sleepy Hollow Village Board and the Mayor. They will join us in the Gathering Room on Tuesday, May 14 at 7:30 for an hour of updates and answering your questions.

In addition, we have the opportunity to vote on the yearly school budget, because the School Budget Elections will take place on Tuesday May 21, 2019. Transportation will be provided by KoH to the Morse School where the election will be held. If you will not be here on May 21 to vote, you may request an absentee ballot. Get this form, which needs to be mailed to the Board of Education, from Annette Leyden or Martin Smolin.

Tennis Anyone?

The warm weather is (almost) upon us. It’s time to get your rackets and balls out of the closet and sign up for outdoor tennis.

Kendal residents have unlimited access to a wonderful clay tennis court at Phelps – easy on the knees! Players at all levels are welcome. Phelps pays for reconditioning the court in the spring, and Kendal players pay for summer maintenance. It’s a great deal and not very expensive.

To join the tennis players’ email list and get more information, contact Wayne Richter.

New Trip

Cold Spring.png

The Trips Committee announced an exciting new excursion. This one is Wednesday, June 12, and will take participants to both Garrison and Cold Spring.

The trip members will explore two riverside villages in the Hudson Highlands: Garrison Landing historical district, with its wooden houses and commercial structures dating to the 1850s and a splendid view of West Point; a walking tour of Cold Spring’s charming village’s shops, antique stores and art galleries and, after lunch, a drive through its well-preserved 19th-century historical district to Dockside Park with dramatic views of the Hudson River and Storm King Mountain.

Sign-up for the trip is, as usual, in the Trips Book located in the Activities Alcove.

Staff Appreciation Fund Drive

Staff Appreciation 4.png

Twice a year, residents have an opportunity to thank the staff in a tangible way for all they have done to make our lives better and more comfortable. Since there is no tipping at Kendal, we have the Staff Appreciation Fund in its place.

If you haven't contributed, please do so as soon as possible. If you have already done so, many thanks!

Checks should be made out to KoH Residents Association, with Staff Appreciation noted on the memo line, and deposited in the collection box located at the Front Desk in the Mary Powell Building. Questions? Please speak to Marilyn Bottjer or Gene DuBow.

Mother's Day Program

Mothers day 1.jpg

As promised, we have some more news regarding the Mother’s Day program.

Larry O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin (son and daughter-in-law of Deborah O'Keefe) take a break from Broadway to spend Mother's Day performing on their favorite stage, Kendal on Hudson.

They're bringing some of their favorite Broadway singers to celebrate spring and mothers everywhere.  There will be some Nell and Larry songs, some Broadway classics, some songs about Moms, and some special surprises.

It’s in the Gathering Room at 3 pm Sunday, May 12!

Don’t miss it!
