Creating

“I never realized the third stage of life could be such a Renaissance time.” (KOH resident)

Looking around Kendal on Hudson, one sees residents creating art, crafts, tasteful decorating throughout the four buildings, music, photography, and writing.

ART

There are many active artists, an art studio, art classes, exhibits of work by residents and staff, all artfully coordinated by the resident Art Committee.

The opening of a new exhibit on the Rue des Artistes May 3, 2016 was enjoyed by many.  Click on the arrow on the right to advance to the next photos.

The photos below are from a recent drawing workshop class with Pam Deitrich, March 17, 2016.

CRAFTS

Crafts abound too, aided by the Crafts Committee, with a craft room, weavers working on their looms, projects for the Tuesday AM Group, fabric projects, a needlepoint house, and beading.

MUSIC

Bell Ringers practice regularly and have played at concerts and memorial services.

The Kendal Chorus practices weekly, gives two concerts a year, and organizes Sing-alongs for the entire community.  Click on the photo below for a slide show of the May 2016 Concert.

Music on the Balcony (known as MOB) sight-reads new music every Thursday evening from 7-9.  There are four violins, two violas, one cello, and one recorder. Sometimes there is a harpsichord.  Five are Kendal residents and four are from surrounding villages.

WRITING

Kendal on Hudson is home to a number of writers.  Some publish in Kendal View, a literary journal with 16-pages of text, four pages of full-color photographs, and eight pages of ads.  The web editions of several recent issues are below.  The web edition of Kendal View contains most of the content in the print edition unchanged.  It does not include content intended primarily for the KOH community.  Once you finish reading one, press the esc key on the computer twice to return here. Some earlier editions of Kendal View are on the Kendal View web page

The Library has a shelf of books published by KOH authors, and other residents edit and publish their own blogs.

Every week a team of resident writers and editors on the Spotlight Committee edit and produce the weekly newsletter.

Gala events are enlivened by skits and songs written by KOH residents.
